[Students should dress like students, he catches himself thinking idly, and oddly it doesn't seem to come with as much of a razor's edge as it usually does.]
...I really didn't think I'd like these as much as I do. They're...I don't know. Kind of buttery, sort of. They feel nice. A little weird, too, but nicer than my uniform ones.
no subject
[ He makes his jab, triumphantly coiling up to sit up a little higher. Haha, good one. ]
I didn't think you would either. They were meant to be an ultimately failed experiment. I thought you would find the idea of them to be too macabre for your tastes. My rationale was that scales on scales makes for something smoother. Plus, it insulates. Not that you need it.
[ A beat. ]
Thank you for... Liking them.
no subject
[Which probably explains all of the jokes and jabs he's been making about them; resorting to levity keeps things from getting serious, and serious is where he might start doubting.]
...Thanks for making them for me.

You're welcome. If you go back in my room, there is another box with a plainer pair of pants and a shirt like the one you usually wear with the back more neatly cut out to accommodate your wings. You can go fetch those now if you want to wear something less silly.
I would have gotten more done but I was busy getting Lorna acclimated to the shop.
no subject
...In a minute. Who's Lorna? A new employee, I guess?
no subject
More than an employee. She's my apprentice. I'm trying to make her into someone who can manage the shop should I ever need to take long absences. She has some experience and wants to learn more about the trade.
[ Also-- ]
She was looking for a job on the network about a month ago before Vietnam disappeared. I had pointed her in that direction and now I feel sort of obligated to follow through. A quiet little thing who looks like she stepped out of a Western history book. She's never seen a painting in her entire life before setting foot in the shop.
She's positively enamored with me.
no subject
So I should get used to seeing her around. Is she nocturnal, or am I going to miss her because she's going to work in the daytime?
no subject
I would like you two to meet if she is going to be my work duckling until further notice. [ Snakebutt becomes useful again, pulling up his sketch diary and passing it to Rohan's hand. He's gotten VERY GOOD at making peace with it. He flips a few pages. ]
You might like her. She's very sweet and out of the way. [ He turns it outward. On that page is literally what he described-- A young lady who looks like she could have been one of the people walking off of the Mayflower. Soft eyes, twisty horns sprouting from her forehead. Like a photograph, she is gazing around the blank space of the page at something he never drew around her with a clawed hand to her lips and her skirts kicking up in a twirl. ]
Polite too. She could teach you something. [ HE'S TEASING. ]
no subject
[He automatically reaches for the sketchbook, bending down for a closer look. His brow furrows as he examines the image depicted by the sketchy lines, expression clouded at the recognition of — yes, that certainly is Ye Olde Timey Maide, isn't it.]
...You can't be serious. People haven't dressed like that in hundreds of years — are you saying she got dragged here from back then?
And here you thought I was from "back in the past", huh...
no subject
I think people can come from just about anywhere around here. I spoke to a smartass who can put music AND pictures in his cell phone. I would have thought that Lorna was from around here as a native rather than someone who was pulled up by the Fog God.
Would you believe she knows how to work a loom? I will never have to buy cloth ever again!
[ What the Hell is a loom. ]

[HOW DO YOU INTERACT WITH 1) GIRLS AND 2) GIRLS FROM SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS AGO
god only knows
he's doing his best]
You don't think I'm going to scare her, showing up looking like this?
no subject
what do you take him for
a con??? ]
She didn't bat an eye at me. I don't see why she would bat one at you.
And give me a break: I wouldn't exploit my employees. Especially not the ones who actually want to do things instead of grab my money.
no subject
[YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM CREDIT ABOUT THE LAST ONE, AT LEAST]
I'm just saying. She seems like —
[He hesitates, fumbling over what it is he wants to say and only really getting it out in stilted pieces.]
Someone like that, with no experience with normal things, who doesn't know any better...people will take advantage of that. And that shouldn't happen to girls. Especially not girls like that.
no subject
Are you implying that I am one of those people?
[ Hear that knocking, Jotaro? That's a nail being driven into your coffin. ]
no subject
[His face. His hands. This is the worst. Why this.]
She looks like the kind of person that bad things happen to. So be on guard for that. That's all I'm saying.
no subject
All the more reason for her to like you. I'm already very fond of her. She reminds me of someone from home.
[ Except he can't place WHO exactly. ]
I plan on keeping an eye on her. I can appreciate anyone who wants to learn something. I should teach you how to sew, Jotaro.
no subject
[Experimentally, he crouches, then sits down outright next to Rohan, still testing out the range of motion of his pants.]
So you think I should talk to her, then? Since she's going to be hanging around, we ought to get used to each other. That's the plan?
no subject
Here you go.
[ If Jotaro were any other person, he would have scooted away. He can keep fronting that it's a temperature thing but they are literally next to the window. ]
Your hands are too big anyway. They'll rip right through whatever I hand you. I guess I can stay as the person who handles any clothing you destroy.
no subject
[He'll definitely be looking into it. A girl who reminds Rohan of someone from home, and one who looks like she's straight out of Sheltered McThatchedRoofingshire on top of it? That's worth looking into, without a doubt.]
Star Platinum could do it. His hands are bigger than mine, but his precision is unparalleled.
no subject
[ His nose turns up in mock offense. ]
You... Are very attached to your Stand, aren't you?
no subject
[He hums under his breath, settling a little more solidly near Rohan, and gravitating a little toward him besides.]
I asked him to stop my heart. Even that, he did for me. I asked him to take me to the verge of death and bring me back again, and he did it.
Even when he scares me with his power, Star is...different. He's not like any other Stand I've seen. And if I'm the only enemy I ever lose to...then Star's the best weapon I have against myself, because he'll never let anything happen to me.
no subject
That's not something he ever expected to hear. Jotaro? Scared? ]
I have not had Heaven's Door long enough to become so close to it. It feels odd when I hear someone talking about their Stand like it's a person.
So it's--... [ Hrm. ] He is just like you?
I never thought I would hear you say that you are scared of anything.
no subject
[He motions vaguely, as though that's going to help articulate anything.]
I first became aware of him when I would fight. I didn't realize what he was, then, or what he was doing. But I'd get into a fight, and he'd come out and fight for me — harder and stronger than I could. He put four people in the hospital. But he didn't understand...
[...]
I think he was trying to do what I wanted, but I wasn't even aware I was being asked what I wanted. He tried to bring me things that I asked for, no matter how absurd or outlandish. He'd...I shot myself point-blank with a revolver to my temple, and he stopped the bullet before it could touch me. He caught it.
But the first time I fought with him — really fought, not just the horsing around my grandfather set up...even then I could tell, Star is wilder than I am. He can be more vicious. He...he feels things that aren't my feelings. That's how I know he's different, even though he's also a part of me.
no subject
... You have got to be kidding.
I haven't seen much of Star Platinum save for the small handful of times we had spoken about it. I haven't been aware of just how independently sentient it seems.
I know that they are meant to reflect their Users in some way, but... [ Trailing off has him shifting a little and placing his fingers to his bottom lip thoughtfully. ] I'm not sure I can articulate what I mean exactly.
no subject
Give it a try? It's fine if you don't get it right the first time. I'm interested in hearing what you think, either way.
[He may be inching one clawed hand a little closer to Rohan. There may be a super smooth attempt at putting that arm around him in the impending future.]
