[It was still early when Kakyoin woke up--which was lucky, as anything like an alarm clock was kind of out of the question. He'd really hoped to be the first of them to wake up; after July it seemed fair. Today was special, and much better than the more recent significant day they'd just managed to get through.]
[Kakyoin leaned his head on one hand, brushing thin fingers of the other through Jotaro's hair. With how difficult things got both in this city and at home, on occasion it was hard to remember that things weren't always painful or difficult.]
[It was moments like this that made everything worth it. This was what he'd fought for--the happiness and safety of this family, his friends, and the person he loved. It wasn't something that he had needed to earn or prove himself worthy of; as difficult as that could be to remind himself of, at times like this it was the furthest thing from his mind.]
[Today was significant. And he was going to do everything he could to make sure that couldn't possibly be anything less than what his best friend and boyfriend deserved.]
[He sleeps better these days than he once did. It's still far from perfect; maybe it's never going to be perfect. But it's better than it once was, and tonight is blessedly one of those nights that he finds some genuine respite. So he's sleeping reasonably peacefully when Kakyoin wakes up in advance of him, and he's coaxed out of it in the best possible way, by fingers in his hair and gentle attention to draw him out of his dreams.]
I remember. I sleep a lot better than I used to back then, too. [Kakyoin leaned his forehead against Jotaro's, smiling.] I can't believe you're starting off today by picking on me for that on the one day you can get away with it.
I might be a little more inclined to listen if you wanted something. And since I like to think I usually listen when people want something from me, that should say a lot.
You're awful. [nowhere here was any kind of correction made.]
I had something a little different in mind first. Do you want me to give you something, or are you just going to keep teasing me until my endless patience gives out?
[He reaches for that tendril, wrapping his fingers around it and pulling it to his mouth for a kiss in the usual fashion before setting about opening up the box.]
[Kakyoin turned slightly red at that, caught off guard even as Hierophant wrapped around Jotaro's fingers in the usual manner of insistent attention-seeking. Meanwhile, inside the box was a journal that had probably had a white cover before Kakyoin got his hands on it.]
It's...easier to hold on to things when they're written down somewhere they can be looked over again, right? So I thought that you might get a lot of use out of something like this.
I...might've gotten a little carried away. [Laughing, he rubbed the back of his neck self-consciously.] I'm glad you like it. That's...I'm really happy.
Yeah. I was just going to do something simple, but then I decided I might as well use a few extra colors, then one thing sort of led to another and that's the end result.

[Once he woke up, that is.]

...Hm...?

[He leaned down for a kiss to Jotaro's forehead before settling back down, arms wrapped loosely around the other teenager's neck.]
Happy birthday, Jojo.

[Oh. It's a boyfriend. Hello. c: ]
...Oh. It's the 8th? ...It's the 8th. Hey, I finally caught up to you.

[how gracious of him]
Did you sleep okay?

[How does he tolerate this.]
no subject
Is that how it is? I get everything I want today?
no subject
But I do have something for you, though.

[A hint of a smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth.]
What kind of something?

[Yes, Jotaro, that's the point of teasing, you nailed it.]
When do I get it?
no subject
[you're both correct]
Do you want it now?

[note: not remotely endless]

[OH BOY OH BOY]
Quit stalling, you bastard, of course I want to know what it is.

[Keep your literal pants on. Kakyoin pulled back and sat up, Hierophant retrieving a small wrapped box and dropping it into its user's hand.]
Here--I really do hope you like it.

[He picks up the journal, a little reverently, and idly thumbs through it to examine the handiwork.]
What kind of things did you have in mind?
